Philadelphia Area Whole Foods Market Stores Recycle Over 100,000 Pounds of Obsolete Electronic Devices

An “anything with a plug” recycling event sponsored by Whole Foods Market, eForce Compliance and the Plymouth Meeting Mall diverted over 100,000 pounds of obsolete electronics from the landfill on Saturday, February 18, 2012. This was the largest collection event held by Whole Foods Market in the metro-Philadelphia area to date, with seven Whole Foods stores participating.

“Whole Foods Market should be commended on their commitment to providing their loyal customers with a convenient and environmentally friendly venue to responsibly recycle end-of-life electronic devices. Whole Foods Market customers were pleased to find there was no wait to drop off at any of the participating locations,” said Jay Segal, President of eForce Compliance.

“As we spoke with customers about the event they were most pleased with the fact that their electronics would be processed and recycled locally, thus stimulating the local economy and providing well needed green and sustainable jobs,” added Segal. eForce Compliance is Pennsylvania’s only R2 and e-Stewards certified electronic recycling firm and has teamed up with Whole Foods Market in the past to provide this valuable service to local residents.

Pedal Coop to Offer Philadelphia’s First Zero Footprint Electronic Waste Collection Service

Reducing carbon footprint has become more than a buzzword as organizations strive to discover innovative ways to reduce their environmental impact. One of the more interesting ways to reduce carbon output is being introduced by The Pedal Coop, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that serves to help Philadelphians reduce their carbon footprint and re-discover bicycles as the most viable and convenient mode of transportation in Philadelphia. In what may be the first service available in the nation to recycle electronics with zero footprint, Pedal Coop has partnered with eForce Compliance to provide commercial and residential customers in Center City & South Philadelphia with electronic recycling services that are both compliant and environmentally friendly.

Electronic recycling has become a hot topic in environmental circles as the need for recyclers to remain compliant with ever increasingly difficult regulations has grown substantially. Currently, two certifications are recognized as the standard in the electronic recycling industry: R2 and e-Stewards. eForce Compliance is one of only 9 electronic recycling firms that is certified to both standards and maintains a zero export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries policy in addition to a no landfill processing system.
